Hi Jens,
You'll need to change it at 2 points.
1. config file of imapd.conf
2. config file of the web-cyradm front-end.

Then you can use usernames like test.domain1.tld.
I'm not sure if and how it can work with test at domain1.tld usernames.

Regarding the development.. i'm note sure but i think it's stalled indeed.
