The dot (unix like names) was a Cyrus Imap problem as I recall. The
elimination of it in Xerxes is just a programming choice and can be fixed by
editing the input normalization routine tables. I am not certain what Imap
will then do with it. Try it and let us know what happens. I'll put in on
our list to try as well.

See above about normalization. We do some sanity checking to prevent
certain types of MySql attacks which can be contained in the user name and
password.

I'm not certain that I understand your objective. We have changed the MySql
database several times to support different features.
