I dont know about the limit in 2.2.3. Usually password more that 8 chars 
does not make a lot of sense.
Could you tell us what actually happens? Are all chars over 8 chars 
ignored or auth fails?

If nobody complains, I'm going to limit the size in web-cyradm (not in 
the database)

Please see the mailinglist archives, there was a recent discussion about 
this.
May I ask you how many users do you have?

Hmm... Why not providing your users a webmail interface such as 
horde/imp or squirellmail? Then they could choose which mails are do be 
deleted without downloading them. I do not like such a option. Other 
opinions?
