[Web-cyradm] Free form usernames, 0.5.3->0.5.4 and Debian

Hey guys,
I'm using debian and followed the how to at
http://web-cyradm.org/debian/HowTo.txt to install web-cyradm to be used as a
single domain family email server - with a simple configuration tool for my
parents to use!
Although there are several improvements which I think could be made to the how
to (e.g., all /var/run lines should be changed in the my.cnf, and the how-to
asks you to use the insertuser_mysql script twice - instead of once and the
other one once - and it asks you to use them before the webcyradm.deb has
been installed), I >>think<< I've got it installed correctly now - the tests
at the end of the real how to all seem to work.
My question is about freeform usernames.
I noticed that Rasjid Wilcox said in an email 2 weeks ago that usernames such
as "bob", "dave", "grandpa" etc are possible with 0.5.4
Therefore, I've tried to install 0.5.4
the debian how to deals with installing 0.5.3, so I ran the 0.5.3->0.5.4
upgrade sql scripts
Now I've gone through the real how to again, and I still can't find how to
enable these freeform usernames on 0.5.4 (but its possible that my upgrade
has not been complete, and I'm missing something?)
So what do I need to do to use them?
The second question I have is about the debian setup.
I've got everything running - mysqld runs fine, as does postfix, however -
when I try to log in to web-cyradm, I get a database error.
This is because it can't connect to mysqld, because /var/run/mysqld is deleted
on startup (its a symlink in the how to).
I can't understand how to get it to work on bootup without having to manually
(or even automatically...) create this symlink so any help would be
appreciated
Thanks for any help,
Bob
