Every one who works with mailservers needs to know about DNS. It is important to know HOWTO handle MX records and regognize the most common fatal mistakes. This book from O'Reilly has 645 pages which guides you trough the difficult world of DNS. After a Introduction to the basics, it takes you to the full show of domain administration will all aspects. DNS is crucial, not only for MTA admins. Every time I have a not-that-easy DNS problem I'm consulting this book.
Linux Firewalls (in english)
This is the second edition of the book, which covers all aspects how to build up a Linux based firewall with iptables. It beginns with simple hostbased firewall rules and goes further to more advanced thematics like DMZ installations. If you would like to securely operate a server eighter directly attached to the internet, or protected by a DMZ setup this book will help you very much. It introduces you to the basics of packet filtering and finally ends up in sophisticated firewall designs. I brought the first edition of the book, and later the second edition, because the very good quality and readability.
Opensource Projekte mit CVS (in german)
This book is a must for every developer, especially for opensource projects. It has a introduction into the handling of opensource projects with the help of CVS. There is also a step-by-step guide HOWTO set up a CVS repository, taking you from begin of a project to the maintenance of a program. This book is also suited for experianced CVS users when they need to lookup a rarly used command. I like this book very much, and I'm sure you will like this book too.
UNIX Shell Programming (in english)
One of the best books ever released! Luc has two of them, one at home and one at work. It covers shell programming with the Korn Shell, and thus 99% of the stuff is also valid for the Bourne again Shell (bash). The first release was in 1990 and now 14 years ago, it is still valid and a must for every sysadmin.
